British Library LogoWe work with the British Library to help in the processing, packaging & distribution of digital materials. Our first project — 60,000+ historical 19th century works — span 21 separate collections. The books are available globally in print-on-demand and via a very successful 19th Century Historical Collection iPad App that now has over 350,000 readers in over 150 countries.  We will continue to roll out innovative products with the British Library into the future where they earn money from each sale in order to support their mission.

ProQuestThis incredibly challenging project required the development of automated software and processes to split two-up files (unsuitable for printing) on files digitized from microfilm, for books published prior to 1700.  We have and continue to process tens of thousands of books from this collection for print-on-demand distribution. The corpus of these materials was also organized into 19 retail collections to help us find interested readers and customers more effectively. Libraries contributing to the EEBO collection that are part of this print-on-demand offering earn revenue on these sales.

Gale

We have worked and continue to work with Gale-Cengage to package and distribute their historical collections.  We have put up hundreds of thousands of books from the Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO), Making of Modern Law (MOML), Sabin and Making of the Modern World (MOMW) collections and have identified further materials to bring back into print in 2011.  Libraries contributing to the Gale-Cengage collections that are part of this print-on-demand offering earn revenue on these sales.

BiblioGov ProjectBiblioGov is our project focused on the publication of government materials. We believe a well informed citizenry is vital to a strong democracy. We have published and will continue to publish tens of thousands of government publications each year — making this body of knowledge more accessible to all.

Project Webster

Project Webster is our project focused on creating unique books from the vast body of public domain (governmental) and open source (creative commons licensed) articles in existence. These articles cover every imaginable topic, and are compiled by our editors to create interesting and informative books. Books created in this project are published under various imprints that reflect the nature of the material. We anticipate that, at some point in the future, Project Webster will become part of the BiblioCM platform.

Nabu PressNabu Press is the imprint of our sister company, Nabu, LLC. We handle distribution of Nabu Press books. Nabu Press differs from BiblioLife and our other projects in that the books published by Nabu Press have not been hand curated. Hand curation is a lengthy process. We believe the books published by Nabu Press are culturally important, and should be available in as many formats as possible as soon as possible. As these books go through the laborious process of hand curation and enrichment, they will become part of one or more of our other collections.

Historical Book of the WorldThis is our project group focused on specialized historical & academic content. Curators are able to discover, select and enhance important books in their discipline of study. We are currently releasing the Asia & Far East Collection and will be releasing other collections with leading academic professionals throughout the year. These collections vary in size based on the subject matter and will be available in both print and electronic formats.

The following projects were collaborations using our BiblioCM platform. The platform allows us to connect subject matter experts, editorial resources and a huge amount of historical content to create unique, timely and interesting books.

Conrad Anker

Essential History of Exploration & Mountaineering

With a special foreword by Conrad Anker, the mountaineer who discovered George Mallory’s body in 1999, the books featured in this series were on-site historical reference texts during the filming of The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest released in the Summer of 2010. The books also include Conrad’s trip journal from the now historic Altitude Everest Expedition. In addition to the Everest Series, we released several other classics of mountaineering with Conrad and his team.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

This celebration of all things pirate happens every Sept. 19th and it has become a global phenomenon. The founders of ITLAPD — Ol’ Chumbucket and Capn’ Slappy  – selected some of our best pirate books added some wit and wisdom, a new cover, and we released these classics of pirate literature. You should walk the plank if you don’t agree this is a really cool way to get a new generation to discover old books.

Your Back Yard Farmer

Your Backyard Farmer

YBF is one of the country’s leading consulting firms for urban gardening and sustainable growing. We worked with them to selecte valuable farming books including The Backyard Farmer. The founders of YBF say it best: “The practices outlined in The Backyard Farmer are still used today, making this a useful and needed book back in circulation and we are honored to be a part of making this information available again. We hope it inspires those who are ready to get their hands dirty and grow more of their own food, securing a more stable and sustainable community and world to live in.”
